Welcome to the "cheating" section ;-) Just kidding! The fact is however that most of the players here will probably be veterans from the old server and hence to lessen the disadvantage for you new guys I decided to create this.
So...you are new in Benzor...fresh of the boat and eager to start you adventuring career. Before you become a true hero however....you guessed it: rats! ....and where to find rats? You guessed it again ;-) The sewers! So hold a rag over your nose and dive in! Thankfully there are also bigger monsters down there to make you feel more heroic. Remember to collect all beetle bellys and skeleton knuckles and similar as they will fetch a good price with the potion seller in town! |
Still even these menial tasks can be quite dangerous to start with. Try to find more adventurers to help you or rent a henchman from the captain (free for level 1 characters). There is an even more risk free start to your career however, like running errands for Argyle Mccabe (near the boat) as well as other small quests from other NPC's in and near Benzor.
In general veterans tend not to do so many "quests" though, but rather just adventure in known and sometimes unknown areas as it generally gives the most XP and gold, once you figure it out. To facilitate grouping together most towns have a temple which has a portal that can magically telport you to the party leader. After you gained a few levels I definately recommend doing the "dwarven bag quest". Talk to the dwarf in the Benzor tavern, he will ask you to deliver something to the Eastern Marches Inn. Basically take the east gate exit and follow the main road (3 maps). After a server reset this quest can be done again. (Please note that you can not have more then 3 bags in total on your character. See the information section.) I know the limit on bags may feel irritating at first but it is necessary for balance reasons. Bear in mind that there are some containers that do not count as bags. Ingot containers for example. Also, after a few levels, you should definately travel to Brosna, "the capital of Nordock", to enjoy the more diverse shopping as well as a customizing shop (to change color on armors etc). (Edit: Nowdays such a shop is avaliable in Benzor even and in some other cities as well.) City gates in the bigger cities can not be "opened" but instead you have to run on arrows on the ground to exit and enter through these gates. (This is part of the city siege system, hopefully denying players from the underdark easy entry.) |
Another way for beginner characters to increase their wealth is to bring a skinning knife along on their adventures. Most animals can be skinned and then also produce meat that can be cooked. This type of skinning does not require any crafting skill. Any character can do it. The pelts can be sold to the fur crafter trader. Note that you can also sell ingots and other crafting materials you found while adventuring to these traders.
Oil flasks, from the general store, can be used on outside grounds to create a fire where raw meat can be cooked. The cheapest food that is sold in Benzor is fish. This, however is quite bulky in the inventory and other slightly more expensive rations, that are sold in various places, are prefered. Beware that some meals sold in taverns are taken from you when you exit the tavern. These are considered being served on plates, belonging to the tavern. If you notice crafters being active it could pay off to take a look in the crafter seller shop. Player crafted goods bought there is both high in quality and cheap! (If you manage to get hold of the crafter in person it might get even cheaper then that.) Most monsters (but not all) create loot that scales to the level of the character. Hence it can even be lucrative to return to areas that are too easy for you, but where you quickly can kill many monsters. Most cities have vendors that sell and buy different types of goods. To make it easier to sell your loot there is usually a "distributor"-merchant that will buy different types of goods at a slightly lower price. However, there are types of goods that not even the distributor will buy. It might be components that the potion-merchant will buy instead. Others could be crafted goods or material that could be sold to a special crafted-gear buyer (usually in the crafting halls). |
