This section describes the differences and changes between the core game and this server. It is so that you know what to expect when building your character and in general.
The core game is described in the manual that accompanies the game. Here is a link to an online version: |
Level advancement and gear
Advancement rate is medium to low. Maximum level is 40 (but adventuring areas after level 30 are limited).
There is a 6 level party level gap (players in a party can not be more levels apart than that when adventuring). Apart from that grouping is both favorable and recomended. Gear amount and power is medium to low. Death
XP penalty for respawning is fairly small from the start but escalating. For a price it is possible to have a ressurection made by a priest which decreases the XP penalty. For this ressurection to be possible the body must be carried and placed before the priest. (Note: Also the spirit in the fugue can move your body to a safe location - usually inside or near the temple of your starting city.)
Raise dead and Resurection require additional ingredients to be cast on fellow players. These can be bought from the priest vendors. Resting
Is allowed in most outside areas and inns (but not in most city centres). There is a time-delay between rests of 6 hours (in-game). You need to eat some food before resting.
Other changes and differences
Devastating critical feat has been removed (not allowed).
There is a HIPS timer if I remember correctly. Other than that all classes are avaliable and you can multiclass freely. Map pins, created by the player, do not save over server resets. Most fixed loot (in chests and similar) only respawns when the server is reset. Crafting
The standard system has been replaced by a much more advanced system called ATS. You can choose between weaponcrafting, armorcrafting, tailoring, leatherworking, jewelcrafting, fletching (making arrows), mining, gemcutting and tinkering amongst other.
In your inventory there should be an object called “tradeskills journal”. Use it to get more information on crafting. There is a critical bug in crafting! Fortunately it is easy to work around. The first time you craft, just craft a little bit. After a server restart it should work normally but your progress could be erased. After that is should work. There is quite an in-depth description of the crafting system online as well. Unfortunately it is from another server so there will be inconsistencies but it still gives a summarized explanation that I think can be of interest: Victorian Nordock crafting guide The standard crafting system is still used but only to change appearance of gear. Item level restrictions
There is a scripted system that works similar to the default system that checks so that items are not too powerful to be used. The only con with this system is that you can’t see if an item in a shop is too high or not (until you buy it and try it of course).

Deities
Note that what you write in the deity field when you are creating your character will be removed when your player enters the server the first time. To set your deity you must talk to any of the statues placed around the world.
Clerics
Because of how deities work it is recomended that, if you intend to have cleric levels in your build, to start with the cleric class. The only way to get to the "hall of divinity" (where you can choose from all deities) is from the beginning of the game, and if you are a cleric at that point.
Otherwise your character will not be able to level up until you have chosen a deity from any of the statues, of which many can be hard to find. Factions
There are two major factions on the server: Surfacers (humans, elfs, dwarfs, gnomes, half-orcs, halflings etc) and Underdarkians (Drow, duergar and other underdark players such as deep gnomes and exiled players from surface).
These two factions are at war with each other...this does still not prevent adventuring together. That can be roleplayed as if the two faction members don't know that they are of different factions (for example). If you are an evil character you will get the choice to play as an underdarkian. (As there are bugs in subraces currently it is instead recomended that you roleplay being a drow, duergar, etc by chosing the corresponding race and darker skin etc). It is recomended to play as a surfacer as it could get lonely in the underdark due to general lack of NWN players these days....also I personally think that the design and layout of the surface areas are better and easier to understand and play in, especially for beginners. Spell changes
Divine
lvl 5, Raise Dead Modified to work with current fugue system. lvl 6, Heal / Harm Max heal/harm reduced to 10xcaster level. lvl 7, Resurrection Modified to work with current fugue system. lvl 7, Greater Restoration Has been “nerfed”. lvl 8, Mass Heal Max heal/harm reduced to 10xcaster level. lvl X, Greater Sanctuary Duration heavily reduced, it is now few rounds. Cooldown timer. lvl X, Undeads Eternal Foe AC bonus changed from deflection to natural. Check, that only one UEF spell has active at time. Increased duration rounds -> turns. Arcane lvl 9, Timestop Area of effect reduced to current map. Decreased duration for 9 seconds = 1,5 rounds Subraces
There are various subraces to choose from like wood elf, deep gnome, drow and many others. Check them out in the starting room.
Please only use them if you are an advanced user. Inventory
Maximum of 3 bags (for balance reasons). This system is scripted.
There is a "bug" in bartering. It has to do with the servers automated system of saving characters. Whenever that engages (every 5 min or something I think) the bartering window will close down. Not a huge problem, you just have to open the barter window again and drag in the items you wanted to trade again. |
